What’s It Like From This Angle?

When things seem to be a little off edge, panicking is the typical response. What if things don’t work out? What if I don’t have enough time? Enough money? Who do I turn to? Where are those closest to you when you need them the most? We’re so tied up with whatever problems and emotions we’re dealing with, that we don’t give ourselves the time to reassess the situation at hand, and reassure ourselves that everything will be okay.

Sure, it’s easier said than done. Sometimes when things get a little out of hand, we can’t control how we feel. There are millions of problems that we may all be experiencing, and the resources that are available to us may not be easily accessible. And, what if we stopped for just a minute to look at things from a different angle?

Many years ago, when I was still a barista at Starbucks I had a co-worker who told me she would go on runs when she felt the need to run away from a problem. Of course, that is only figuratively speaking, but with a bit of exercise and good music, you’re able to have a much clearer mind to deal with whatever problem at hand. When I need to getaway, but have too many responsibilities at hand, I like to pick up a book and read. This way, I’m entering another world other than my own and I can let my imagination run wild. Whatever it is you do that helps clear your mind, I urge you to do it. Be it crafts, arts, even if it’s just going out for a drive down the beach. A clear mind definitely helps aid in problem solving.

  1. I am impressed you were a Starbucks barista, that seems like a tough job. I would never be able to remember all those beverages and use the fancy machines.

    1. Thanks! It was a good job. I worked there for 7 years, but it definitely helped me with networking and having a fun job. Plus, they have the best part-time benefits in any job corporation I think! Part-Time employees working average 20hrs a week are eligible for medical/dental/vision, 401k, sick time, vacation time, as well as their bean stock. It helped me get through community college and even after I transferred to a university 🙂
